About the work: Catherine Opie is known for her powerfully dynamic photography that examines the ideals and norms surrounding the culturally constructed American dream and American identity. In Los Angeles Women’s March, Opie captures the masses protesting on January 21, 2017 to advocate legislation and policies regarding human rights, women's rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, and racial equality. The photograph is a continuation of the artist’s interest in documenting quintessentially American movements and subcultures, as well as the diversity of its communities and landscapes.
