Artist’s statement: “As an artist who revels in working alone, the idea of collaborating with anyone is a bit daunting. However, the process of taking former work and revitalizing it with Magnolia Editions was such an enlightening and rewarding experience. Together we created three prints that are a vision of one’s serenity and ethereal relationship with time. They speak to the human experience of being connected to one’s past, present, and future.”
About the artist: Calida Rawles (b. 1976, Wilmington, DE; lives and works in Los Angeles, CA) received a B.A. from Spelman College, Atlanta, GA (1998) and an M.A. from New York University, New York, NY (2000). Rawles was most recently included in the 2022 Berlin Biennale and she will have a solo exhibition with Lehmann Maupin in New York in 2023.
Rawles created the cover art for Ta-Nehisi Coates’s debut novel, “The Water Dancer,” and her work is in numerous public and private collections, including the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles, CA; Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, FL; and Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, NY.
